Pointers for 2008-09 season
SOLDERSHIRE
(Mr Peter Tipples)
He was placed three times last season in Ladies Opens, all of them very creditable runs as he was up against decent horses. However, we believe he is a different horse when he gets on fast ground which he did not have the opportunity to run on last season last season. It would be thrilling for his very sporting owner, Peter Tipples, if he could win another race.
(Mrs Sheena Braxton)
A very consistent horse and ran some excellent races for his novice rider Matthew Braxton last season. The combination really got on well and notched up three consecutive wins, improving every time. He is not an easy ride but there is undoubtedly more to come from this exciting combination and may possibly tackle a Hunter Chase this year.
(Alan Cowing)
He is a very consistent fun horse and always tries his heart out every time he runs. He is not a big horse though and perhaps carrying 12 stone just seems to catch him out at the end of his races over three miles. Always placed last year and ended the season on a high by finishing third in a Hunter Chase at Folkestone.
(Random Optimists)
He came in late last season and so only had two runs. He was 2nd on both occasions beaten by Carry on Harry and Valley Henry who would have given him 34 lbs in a handicap under Rules.. He is an exciting prospect for 2009. Very good jumper.
(Random Optimists)
A frustrating horse who has never really shown the same ability since winning the Novice Hunter Chase at Folkestone in 2006. He has had various problems and if these can be put right then he is a class horse.
(For Sale)
A big individual who has needed time to grow into himself. He has pulled up on both his runs but he was weak and backward. He is a smashing hunter and hopefully after some more hunting he will mature and developed into an extremely nice horse. Potentially very interesting.
(Dr Caroline Hargreaves)
He was bought from Ireland as a ‘hunter’ because he never showed much on the track over there. When the hunting season finished in March we decided to give him a run to see what he would do. He ended up winning three times, including the Novices' Hunters' Chase at Folkestone! He is only 7 years old so undoubtedly there will be more to come from him. He will need to improve to cope in Open company.
(Un-named, for sale)
Nice sort who arrived from Ireland in the summer. Jumps and goes nicely but unknown quantity at this stage.
